What we keep, who sees it, and what we don’t do with it.
What hostme is
hostme helps people host events and pitch-ins. We collect only what we need to run that: accounts, RSVPs, guest lists, and optional photos for an event page.
hostme is a creation of Guardian Media, Inc..
What we store
- Name, email, and phone — for your account and for RSVPs or invitations.
- Passwords as a hash, not the password itself.
- Events you create: title, when, place, notes, the board of dishes/tasks, and who claimed what.
- Guest lists a host uploads (names, emails, phones) so they can invite people.
- Photos or images a host uploads for an event page.
- Session cookies so you stay logged in. We use those for login, not ads.
- If you opt in to texts, we store that phone and the time you said yes.
Who sees what
Hosts see their own event’s guests, claims, and contact details. Other guests see names, emails, phones, or the street address only if the host set that visibility to public or “attendees.” Hidden fields stay hidden from guests. A public event’s title and time can appear to anyone with the link. We do not sell contact lists. We do not rent them. We do not hand your guests to marketers.
We may use a small set of service providers to run the site (hosting, email delivery, SMS). They get only what they need to do that job.
Texts
SMS is optional. We send event-related messages only after you opt in: invites, “you’re in,” and host-sent alerts. Not a daily blast. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. From number: a hostme number (888-996-6992). That is the From number for texts, not the public contact number. You can also start from hostme.events/sms.
Your account
You can edit your name, email, and phone on your account page. Want something deleted? Email help@hostme.events or call (888) 940-0123 and we’ll work through it.
Kids
hostme is for adults hosting events, not for children under 13.
